Old Palace of John Whitgift, an independent school for girls in Croydon, asked Smarter Reach to produce an e-newsletter to communicate news and events to past students and other interested parties. The newsletter needed to be easy to read on tablets, mobile and desktop and be part of a larger strategy to cut down on the amount of paper-based communications being sent to alumni.
The School was already using database software, “Raiser’s Edge”; a tool predominantly designed for fundraising but with an integrated email marketing module. Although the built-in module has some limitations not present in other platforms (e.g. MailChimp), these were outweighed by the benefit of its feature that allows the sender to record that a particular communication has been sent to an individual alumnus or group of alumni on the database record. This is invaluable to the School as they monitor and track which of their “old girls” is interested and engaged with the communications.
